(ANSA) - ROME, NOVEMBER 26 - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticized the fact that progress on restoring electricity has been slow, especially in the capital Kiev, in remarks that some have interpreted as open criticism of the capital's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko.
The Guardian reports it.
"Many citizens of Kiev have been without electricity for more than 20 or even 30 hours," said the Ukrainian leader, stressing that he expects quality work from the mayor's office.
Zelensky did not mention Klitschko's name, but made it clear that he was annoyed that there were too few relief shelters for the capital's 3 million population, speaking of "many grievances, especially in Kiev".
Klitschko previously said that 400 of these facilities had been created to provide citizens with electricity, water, emergency services and Internet access, as well as heating.
"There is still work to be done in other areas, to say the least," the president said.
"Kiev residents need more protection."
