Resident in Casamicciola
»My husband woke up and went outside and there was a real waterfall of water and mud coming down.«
Pasquale Barbieri, resident of Casamicciola, 83 years old
“Everything in the valley is buried.
I've seen ten earthquakes and floods and no one has ever done anything here."
The area has long been considered a risk area for landslides.

“It's the fault of our old politicians who didn't install protections in the mountains.
They cut down the trees and this is the result.
Something like this happened before in 2010, when a 15-year-old girl died.
This time it was a disaster.”
In the meantime, the first expert voices have also been voiced that the local authorities have done too little to protect against extreme weather events in recent years.
