Citizens' income will come from January 1st, 2023. Those who previously received Hartz 4 will then receive more.
However, the allowance was reduced.
Even with pensioners.
Citizens' money continues to cause debates.
At first it took weeks before the traffic light coalition and the Union were able to agree on a compromise.
Now criticism from the social organizations is loud.
The new agreed standard rates are much too low, especially in view of the current energy crisis.
An increase would therefore not only benefit the unemployed, but more than a million pensioners who receive basic security.
Criticism is loud - pensioners are disadvantaged in basic security
The corresponding draft law on citizen income was passed by the cabinet last week.
It will come on January 1st, 2023 and will replace the former Hartz 4 as a new basic unemployment benefit.
This is 502 euros per month for single people, which is around 50 euros more than the current rate for unemployment benefit II.

Social associations criticize that pensioners are allowed to have fewer protective assets when they receive basic security in old age.

Originally, the protective assets were set at 60,000 euros, but this was reduced under pressure from the Union.
Tagesschau.de
reports on further details of the agreement reached: "The compromise now provides for an amount of 40,000 euros for the first person in a benefit community and 15,000 euros for each additional person," says the report.
"There is a waiting period of one year - the traffic light wanted two years." During this time, benefit recipients would not have to use up their savings, also known as protective assets.
But: In the case of basic security in old age and reduced earning capacity, it is only 10,000 euros.
Apparently, other rules apply to pensioners, which the social organizations do not want to accept.
This also applies if you own a car.
While benefit recipients under SGB II are allowed to drive a car without it being checked, things are different when it comes to basic security in old age.

Criticism is loud - social organizations demand monthly inflation money
But in the current situation, it is more important than ever, the social organizations are demanding, to support those in need;
not only those who receive basic social security, but all those on low incomes.
Therefore, the one-off payments that were decided in the relief packages are not enough, it is said.
Instead, according to the
German Social Association
on its website, a "rapid introduction of inflation money as a direct payment" is needed.
In the best case, this should be at least 100 euros per month per person for people with the lowest income, such as single parents, the association concludes.
