He became known for his performances in the nightclubs outside New York: According to consistent media reports, the actor Freddie Roman has now died in Florida at the age of 85.
The industry platform "Deadline" initially reported on this.
Roman was born in New York in 1937. At the beginning of his career he worked as a comedian in various hotels and holiday resorts in the Catshills Mountains, the so-called »Borscht Belt«.
The location became known, among other things, through the film "Dirty Dancing", various later famous actors and comedians such as Mel Brooks and Don Rickles were given a stage there in their early years.
He later conceived his standup show Catskills on Broadway with Dick Capri, Marilyn Michaels and Mal Z. Lawrence.
As an actor, Roman has appeared in the comedy films »The Last Laugh« (2006) and Finding North (1998), was a guest in the crime series »Law & Order: Criminal Intent«.
Most recently, he starred as Herb in the comedy series Red Oaks on Amazon Prime.
