(ANSA) - TEL AVIV, NOVEMBER 28 - The prime minister in charge BenyaminNetanyahu - after the one with Itamar Ben Gvir - has signed a government agreement with Avi Maoz, a radical right-wing exponent, considered homophobic, ultra-conservative and anti-Arab.
The agreement envisages that Maoz will be entrusted with the position of head of the new 'Jewish identity' department with the title of deputy minister.
A move condemned by the current prime minister and leader of the opposition Yair Lapid as "nothing but madness".
"Every day that passes - he explained - what is envisaged is, rather than a total right-wing government, an executive completely out of his mind".
Maoz - the only deputy of the radical right-wing formation 'Noam' - is among other things one of the most vocal supporters of the need to revise, in a highly restrictive sense, David Ben Gurion's Law of Return which allows Israeli citizenship to children and grandchildren of Jews.
Furthermore, he is in favor – the media have recalled – of allowing pseudo-scientific 'conversion therapy' for gays.
