After the quarantine in some federal states, grocers such as Kaufland and Lidl explain how to deal with symptom-free but corona-infected employees.

What customers need to be prepared for.

A few weeks ago, when politicians were still discussing a regulation for mouth and nose protection indoors, the question arose of a renewed obligation to wear masks when shopping.

Kaufland and Lidl have clear guidelines for this, as

echo24.de

reports.

Now even the quarantine requirement in Baden-Württemberg is gone.

How does the food trade deal with employees who are infected with the Corona virus?

In Austria, quarantine has been history since August 2022.

Infected people without symptoms go to work there in the grocery store – including at Lidl.

As the

Kronenzeitung

writes, among other things, the discounter wants to use employees who have tested positive but are not ill in the branches.

At the request of our editors, Kaufland, Lidl and Aldi Süd have now also commented on the situation in Germany.

Lidl Austria puts corona infected people at the checkout in the supermarket

In Austria, the lack of staff in the food trade is a big issue and the quarantine is a relief.

However, the GPA union finds Covid-infected people at work in the supermarket “not practical”.

As the chairwoman of the GPA, Barbara Teiber, explained according to the

Kronenzeitung

in August, many "

did not have a good feeling in the company, both superiors, employers and employees, working side by side with corona positives"

.

Company:

Kaufland

Headquarters:

Neckarsulm

Founding:

1984 in Neckarsulm

Sales volume:

21 billion euros (2019)

At Lidl in Austria, the people concerned should also collect, although they should be used whenever possible in areas without customer contact.

But is this also an everyday situation at Kaufland and Lidl in Germany?

With Corona at the supermarket checkout: this is how Kaufland deals with it

Kaufland explains to

echo24.de

that it is

“basically based on the regulations of the federal states, the respective regionally applicable general decrees and the Corona Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance”

.

The supermarket giant from Baden-Württemberg, based in Neckarsulm, attaches great importance to the fact that employees in food retail generally have to comply with hygiene measures.

Due to the corona pandemic, according to Kaufland, the

“employees are particularly sensitized in this regard”

.

The company also explains: “We have also intensified our regular cleaning and disinfection measures.

There are disinfectant dispensers in the customer information area.”

Lidl and Aldi Süd explain their guidelines: Corona infected to work

The situation is similar for the sister company from the Schwarz Group.

Lidl is also reluctant to make specific statements.

Unlike Lidl in Austria, they limit themselves to referring to the general regulations and the intensified

"regular cleaning and disinfection measures"

.

In its statement on the subject, discounter competitor Aldi Süd refers to the Corona Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institute.

Kaufland, Lidl and Aldi Süd: Employees and customers between reason and regulation

There are no clear statements.

According to the ordinance, the following currently applies in Baden-Württemberg:

“If the result of a rapid test is positive, the provisions of the Corona Ordinance apply to protective measures that replace isolation.

After that, the obligation to wear a mask (at least mouth and nose protection) outside of your own home applies for five days.

An exception applies outdoors if a minimum distance of 1.5 meters to other people can be maintained

.

Manfred Lucha, Health Minister of Baden-Württemberg, relies on personal responsibility and advises: “Anyone who is ill and has symptoms should stay at home and take sick leave as before.” But he also made it clear to the

SWR

: “It is also possible about the workforce.

It's about maintaining our social life.

If I go to work with a mask and move, then I also leave it on.

So I'm not worried that this will result in a major risk of infection."
