It will therefore take seven years instead of eight.
The rock band unveiled the upcoming release of
72 Seasons
, their twelfth album, on Monday.
The appointment is made for April 14, 2023. The announcement was accompanied by the presentation of the group's new world tour which will stop at the Stade de France for two dates, May 17 and 19, 2023.
Accompanied by first ambient images - yellow and black - a first single from the Four Horsemen was also shared on Monday.
With its little three and a half minutes on the clock,
Lux Æterna
wants to be lively, concise and hard-hitting, in the right musical line of Metallica's previous album,
Hardwired… to Self-Destruct
.
Who was also announced, in 2016, with an invigorating piece.

Produced once again by Greg Fidelman, collaborator of Metallica since
Death Magnetic
, in 2008,
72 Seasons
will consist of 12 tracks, for a total duration of 77 minutes.
Commenting on the quirky name of their forthcoming album, band singer and guitarist James Hetfield said it was a reference to the
"first 18 years of our lives",
a defining and formative period of every human being.
