The semiconductor availability crisis continues, despite analysts and companies, such as Foxconn, seeing signs of recovery in recent months.

Cases of Covid leading Chinese factories to close, inflation and economic instability, continue to keep alive a problem manufacturers face.

For this reason, Samsung has decided to launch a new research unit within the Device Solutions Business division to analyze the global chip market and evaluate new investment avenues.

Just the South Korean company had lost, in the third fiscal quarter of the year, the first place in the production of semiconductors, overtaken by Intel.

Currently, Samsung Group has several research organizations, including Samsung Research,

managed by Samsung Electronics for the study and development of advanced technologies, Samsung Securities Research Center and Samsung Global Research.

These are units dedicated to different fields unrelated to the chip industry.

The shortage of semiconductors has led companies that source from Samsung to place fewer orders and slow down production, with the consequence of an excess inventory of other components, such as memories, which together with chips are used to build devices technological.

Not surprisingly, Samsung's memory business suffered a 14% year-on-year decline in revenue in the third quarter.

The Samsung Semiconductor division has announced that the situation may not improve next year even by approaching new sectors, such as servers and data centers, which also require updated hardware to meet the needs of companies and institutions.
