Things you see from "here": the detached news division of the Broadcasting Corporation Israel today

A little more than a week after the start of the World Cup broadcasts in Khan 11, it is already possible to declare the own goal of the tournament: the journalistic campaign of the news edition, which is broadcast between the games with a disproportion that is only equaled by the illusory time extensions in the games.

In the most hyped video, the political commentator Michael Shemesh flies over himself, and dramatically tells the camera how great the mission is on the channel: "There are things that have enormous consequences, and we don't have the privilege of making mistakes," as he talks about the broadcast of the famous recording of Bezalel Smotrich insulting Benjamin Netanyahu , and visits the same sun in a random meeting between them.

"I did my job, this is our commitment to the scouts and to this profession."

There is nothing to complain about to the public broadcasting corporation, which is trying to prove its importance and maximize daily ratings numbers that it has not seen since Eurovision.

The excellent content department is also something to be applauded in the broadcasts - but it is not certain that the sleepy and uninfluential news division in Israel should fly over itself with videos that are more suitable for the "60 Minutes" program.

The other two broadcasts in the campaign, which try to convey extraordinary journalistic courage, can also be summed up as a demonstration of disconnection from reality.

The "liar son of a liar" tape is a legitimate yellow story, but exceptional journalistic work?

A recording of a politician (secret or not) reaching a reporter on the channel is not an unusual effort - and certainly not the tension described in the video in the minutes before its publication.

It's a great story, but not a Pulitzer candidate.

The news department could have produced advertisements around an elegant and less pompous edition than other publications, but showed a horrendous lack of awareness when it presented the channel's team of journalists as a unit that "does not see with the eyes" to bring the truth.

The disconnection started with journalist Moab Verdi, whose embarrassing incident in which he criticized the singer Maluma for normalizing the World Cup in Qatar (a second before normalizing the celebration himself) did not suggest to him that it was worth reducing the effort to mix politics and football.

Later came the videos of the embarrassing encounters with fans from Arab countries, culminating in a Qatari slamming him about how Israelis are not welcome in Qatar, and that there is no Israel at all - only Palestine.

Verdi's humiliated look at the camera and the thunderous silence he demonstrated in front of the fan, did not exactly reflect the spirit of the channel and transmit Israeli journalistic courage, or pride in being there on a mission.

What will his profile video look like on the channel?

Not sure if it's worth producing one like that.

Great story, but not a Pulitzer candidate.

But there will not be a disconnect like we experienced on the field itself, from Amichai Spiegler and Moti Avner.

The two were happy with our great friend Iran in their victory 0:2 over Wales.

And when I say "rejoice" - I mean "shake the country".

The frenzy that gripped the main broadcaster of the World Cup included screams including "Iran in the sky!", in an excitement reminiscent of "Meir, calm down!" moments.

Assuming that the Iranians from the press box next door did not put a gun to his head - this was a disconnected moment, even if you are one of the first to believe that the Iranian national team belongs to the people, and not to the regime.

Spiegler was happy there as if he was broadcasting to the televisions in Boucher, and as if at this very moment the centrifuges in the place are not working overtime to produce the nuclear bomb that will wipe us all out.

Perhaps a moment of "Meir, calm down!" was needed here again.

About the World Cup broadcasts here 11 and what among them were we wrong?

We will fix it!
