It's been six years since their last regular album »Hardwired... To Self-Destruct«.
Metallica have now announced their next long-playing work.
It is entitled "72 Seasons" and is due to be released in April next year and includes twelve new songs.
As a foretaste, the band releases the single "Lux Æterna" along with the accompanying video.
The song is an almost classic thrash metal piece with a length of 3.30 minutes.
Detailed explanation of the album
Metallica singer James Hetfield explains the basic idea of the album that will be released later, »72 Seasons« in German, with his usual interpretation and association: »72 seasons – the first 18 years of our lives, in which our true or false self-image is shaped.
The thought that it was our parents who told you 'who you are'.
Which drawers could be possible and suitable for the personality you have.
What I find really exciting is how this examination of one's own basic beliefs affects the way in which we perceive the world around us today.
Because much of what we experience as adults is either a repetition of it or a reaction to those same childhood experiences.
Prisoners of one's own childhood - or liberation from the shackles we wear.«
The concept album will be presented in 2023 and 2024 on a tour that is similarly planned.
The band will play two shows with a completely different setlist in each city they visit.
The opening act will also change from night to night.
Metallica can be seen four times in Germany, twice in Hamburg (May 26 and 28, 2023) and twice in Munich (May 24 and 26, 2024).
