Heating in the energy crisis: How you can save costs

With rising energy prices, many are thinking about how to save on heating costs.

Heating costs continue to rise.
Many consumers are looking for ways to save energy.
Hydraulic balancing is one possibility.
Munich – The costs for heat and electricity continue to rise.
But with the approaching winter, you can't do without heating.
Consumer portals give tips on how Germans can save on heating costs.
But if the heating is not working properly, proper ventilation or lower room temperatures are of little use.
But what are the benefits of larger measures such as hydraulic balancing or a new heating pump?

Even small measures such as the right type of ventilation, lowering the room temperature or venting the radiators can make a difference in heating costs.
The setting of the heating often also plays a role.
If the radiators heat up at different rates and the heat is unevenly distributed in the house, this may be due to the distance to the heating pump.
Then radiators that are further away from the pump are less well supplied with water than radiators that are closer to the pump.
The reason for this could be the pipes, for example.
If this is the case, in addition to venting, hydraulic balancing can also be useful.
What is hydronic balancing?
As the consulting
company Co2online informs
on its website, a hydraulic balance means that the heating in the house is adjusted “that
all radiators are supplied with heat evenly and efficiently".
Experts first determine the current status of the heating and calculate how much heat is required to reach room temperature.
In a next step, energy consultants then calculate the optimal temperatures for the water for each radiator so that this temperature can be maintained.
The required power of the pump is then determined from this.
The thermostats and boiler can then be reset.
Saving costs through hydronic balancing: What is the point?
However, it is important that the thermostatic valves can be preset.
The
Co2online
portal calculated that a single-family house with 125 m2 could reduce the heating energy requirement by around 1,025 kWh per year.
This could save almost 80 euros a year.
In addition, a readjustment of the heating could also reduce the electricity costs for the heating pump.
The right amount of water should also eliminate flow noises such as whistling or rushing.
According to the portal, if necessary, consumers can save a further 155 euros a year with a new high-efficiency pump.

However, these changes are only for homeowners and should be carried out by professionals.
The cost of hydronic balancing can vary depending on the size of the apartment or house and the number of radiators.
Homeowners can save even more through subsidies: The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) subsidizes the hydraulic adjustment and the replacement of the heating pump with 15 percent of the eligible expenses.
