Elon Musk is planning to expand Twitter's character limit from the current 280 to 1,000 characters.

He did not do it with a direct announcement but, as usual, by answering a user's question on the social network.

Days after acquiring Twitter for $44 billion, Musk said he was open to allowing users to post longer tweets and videos.

Specifically, in response to a user's question about extending the character limit in each tweet to 1,000, Musk replied "it's on the to-do list."

Previously, the new owner of the platform had written "good idea" to a user who suggested that the social network set the character limit on tweets at 420 instead of 280.

Twitter was born with 140 characters then passed to 280 in 2017. The character limit on tweets has always generated debates among users, divided between those who want them drier and those who would like more space to write.

Since buying the social network, Musk has aired several changes.

The most notable is the launch of Twitter Blue, a subscription service, which charges users $8 a month for blue ticking, the ability to post longer videos, see fewer ads, and have posts prioritized.

The gold and gray check should also arrive for companies and institutions.

A move to diversify the company's revenues which are currently mainly based on advertising.
