Writer and journalist Tamar Galvetz passed away today (Tuesday) at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer.
Galbats was known for her vital and witty writing, which described the life of a Tel Aviv woman that launched many points to her own life.
Galbats published three books: "You are in a good time", "Makupal" which was also nominated for the Sapir Prize and "The Dead and the Very Living".
A fourth book is expected to be published this spring.
She was born in Tel Aviv in 1957 and at the age of three her family moved to Be'er Sheva, and later to Haifa.
She studied film and English literature at Tel Aviv University and wrote in "Haaretz", "Ha'ir", "Kel Ha'ir", "Hadhot" and finally in "Maariv", where she was, among other things, the television critic, the sub-editor of the "Weekend" supplement from Makimi "Tarbut Ma'ariv" supplement, in which writers such as David Avidan, Assaf Tsipur, Etgar Keret, Meir Wiseltir and Menachem Perry wrote at that time. In addition, she wrote one of the episodes of the first season of the series "Florentine" which was broadcast on Channel 2 and also edited the cultural program "The Small Circle" ".
Galvetz was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, when her daughter was two years old.
After that she was fired from Ma'ariv and separated from her partner, the musician and producer Ronan Ben Tal, after a relationship of 20 years.
The book "You are in a good time" (2004), is about a woman who has cancer, is fired from her job and her psychologist travels to Switzerland to take care of his sick wife.
The second book, "Folded" (2006), deals with the separation between spouses after 20 years.
She wrote her third book, "The Dead and the Very Living" (2012), following the death of her mother, about two decades after the death of her father.
The three books were critically acclaimed and established her status as a writer who describes urban life in a witty and dynamic voice.
