The accused Andreas S. was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of two police officers near Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate at the end of January.
The district court of Kaiserslautern also determined on Wednesday that the guilt was particularly serious.
The public prosecutor had previously demanded life imprisonment for S.
The man was guilty of two murders, said senior public prosecutor Stefan Orthen in his plea to the Kaiserslautern district court.
In fact, several characteristics of murder were fulfilled, and the act had "executive character".
The guilt is particularly serious, said Orthen.
On January 31, a 29-year-old police commissioner and a 24-year-old police candidate were shot dead during a night traffic check on a district road near Kusel.
As the suspected shooter, 39-year-old Andreas S. has been on trial for two murders since mid-June.
