Rising food prices are a burden for many consumers.

A Rewe customer found a price tag whose information gave a bad idea.

Munich – Shopping in supermarkets and discounters has become significantly more expensive for consumers.

Food prices have risen sharply.

Whether at Aldi, Lidl, Penny, Edeka, Rewe, Kaufland or the competition – customers in all markets are now paying more than they were a few months ago.

Criticism has recently been raised about the massive price increases.

Experts doubted whether this was solely due to high inflation and the effects of the Ukraine war.

The consumer center of North Rhine-Westphalia called the "pricing of food highly non-transparent and speculative".

Rewe customer sees confusing price tag and questions "mathematical knowledge".

However, most consumers do not have a choice, they have to buy their usual groceries willy-nilly at the current prices.

A Rewe customer had to experience first-hand that the price tags on the supermarket shelves can sometimes lead to confusion.

According to his own statements, he found a price tag in a branch of the supermarket chain that was not clearly labeled.

He posted a picture of the sign in question on Twitter and wrote: "With all due respect, Rewe, I would question your mathematical knowledge.

Or do you define kilograms differently?”

A legitimate tip, because according to the Rewe price tag you paid 2.09 euros for the product "Brioche Feine Welt" in the 400 gram pack.

However, the kilo price was 24.59 euros.

Something doesn't really add up here: With an item price of EUR 24.59 per kilo, the price for 400 grams of the product should be rounded up to EUR 9.84.

Another Twitter user calculated correctly: "Should actually be 5.23 euros per kilo." The author of the tweet saw it that way and joked: "Unless 1 kg = approx. 4.706 g in the Rewe world." Another user expressed a wish: "Hopefully they will change the price per kilo and not the 400 gram price."

Rewe price tag: Price per kilo does not match product price – “Extra price models for fine gentlemen”

Other Twitter users meanwhile had other (not entirely serious) explanations as to why the price per kilo and the price for the 400-gram pack did not match on the Rewe price tag.

"Fine world has extra price models for fine gentlemen," joked one.

"Maybe it's just a very heavy kilogram," suggested another.

But it's not just in the Rewe stores that small mistakes happen from time to time.

Recently, an Edeka customer was confused when looking at the shelf, whether he could "choose the price".

Meanwhile, an Aldi customer discovered a special kind of discount price in a branch of the discounter.
