It's that time again: winter is coming with its freezing temperatures.

Which tricks you definitely won't get cold feet with.

For most people, winter heralds the cozy time of the year.

When the warm rays of sunshine outside become less and less, the sofa becomes your new favorite spot.

After all, it's very tempting to curl up inside under cozy blankets in cold weather.

But ice, snow and sub-zero temperatures do not have to be an obstacle to outdoor activities.

After all, it is not for nothing that they say: There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!

We have put together a number of tips on how to protect your body from the cold so that you don't – literally – catch the low temperatures off guard.

Because with the right equipment, even frostbite is cozy and warm in winter.

1. The right jacket

It is worth investing in a high-quality thermal jacket.

Jackets with down feathers are particularly recommended, as they have excellent insulating properties.

Thanks to the many small ramifications, body heat can be stored for a long time - even when the temperature is below zero!

There are also jackets made of synthetically manufactured artificial down, but the heat output of these products is lower.

It is best to pay attention to the fill power of the down jacket when buying it.

This value is given in cubic inches ("cuin") and should ideally be at least 500 or 600 cuin.

The higher the fill power, the greater the thermal performance of the down jacket.

However, you should be careful when it rains: the down material is sensitive to moisture and quickly clumps together when wet.

2. Functional underwear

In winter, there is actually no way around thermal underwear for outdoor lovers.

The best models are made of merino wool, which doesn't give the cold a chance.

In addition, merino wool is breathable, odor resistant and easy to care for.

Not to mention the comfort: the fine fabric does not scratch, but nestles nicely against the skin.

3. Headgear

Some people wear hats all year round as a fashion accessory.

In winter at the latest, however, the warming headgear becomes mandatory.

We freeze quickly, especially on the head, because the fine muscle strands there are very sensitive to cold air.

Ideally, hats also cover the ears and neck.

Without a hat, the sinuses or ears can cool down and become more susceptible to pathogens.

This in turn can lead to a middle ear infection or sinus infection.

Fleece or wool hats are particularly warm.

Alpaca wool in particular is popular in sub-zero temperatures because of its excellent heat retention properties.

Cotton products, on the other hand, are more suitable for the transitional period.

4. Warm hands and feet

Women in particular quickly suffer from cold hands and feet in winter.

If you want to stimulate your blood circulation, you can opt for cold-warm contrast baths and stimulating contrast showers.

Warm footbaths can also help.

In general, it helps to keep moving as much as possible – even outside.

Gloves:

It is best to use the classic layering principle and also wear several layers on your hands.

A good combination is, for example, thin silk gloves worn under warm mittens.

Thick down gloves are also recommended.

If you suffer from chronically cold fingers and still don't want to miss out on outdoor fun, you can buy heated gloves.

Thanks to the electronically controlled heating elements, your fingers stay warm and flexible even in sub-zero temperatures.

The desired heat levels can be easily regulated.

Warm socks:

If you have cold feet, make sure you wear the right socks.

It is better to stay away from the classic cotton socks, as they do not offer any protection against cold or moisture.

Wool socks, on the other hand, are much more suitable.

These are not only cozy and warm, but also adapt well to the foot in the shoe.

Merino wool is an excellent choice for outdoor activities, while virgin wool makes a good thermal sock.

As with the gloves, the socks also have a heated option to keep your feet warm and dry whatever the weather.

It is best to wear a pair of breathable, water-repellent boots with non-slip soles.

5. Personal Care

The skin does not want to be neglected during the cold season either.

The harsh weather often causes dry and brittle skin because its natural oil film is attacked by the cold.

It is therefore important to help with appropriate products.

In particular, fatty creams with a low water content are now helpful.

Many brands have developed a cold protection cream especially for winter, which moisturizes extremely dry skin and surrounds it with a protective layer of fat.

The sensitive lip region should also be cared for regularly.

Products based on beeswax are recommended here.
