(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 01 - 'The government is fully committed to helping research" and "giving it all possible means": said the minister for universities and research, Anna Maria Bernini, at the opening of the conference organized in the Senate ten years after the death of the Nobel Rita Levi Montalcini, by the European Institute for Brain Research (EBRI) and by the Accademia dei XL, on the initiative of Senator Elena Cattaneo.Addressing the Nobel Parisi and quoting her recent statements on funding for research, Bernini said: "I am committed to helping research and certainly the government will."

The possibility of accessing tenders for public funding for research also for the European Institute for Brain Research (EBRI), commissioned by Nobel laureate Rita Levi Montalcini: this is what the president of the EBRI Foundation, Antonino Cattaneo, asked at the Senate conference on the ten years after the death of Levi Montalcini, organized by Ebri and the Accademia dei XL on the initiative of Senator Elena Cattaneo.

"Italy needs research to grow and to be competitive," said Antonino Cattaneo.

"We remind our decision-makers how important public research is, even with new organizational models."

In particular, as far as the EBRI is concerned, "although our researchers work on subjects with a strong impact on society, such as Alzheimer's, neurodegenerative diseases and rare diseases, it is a private foundation and as such cannot access public tenders for research".

Consequently, he added, "we ask for access to the competition, with the possibility of participating in tenders also in Italy, just as our researchers participate in European and international tenders".
