(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 01 - The Capitoline assembly has unanimously approved the resolution to confer honorary citizenship on Patrick Zaki, the Egyptian student of the University of Bologna.
The vote was greeted with applause from the councilors and the audience in the hall.
"Rome, also because it is the capital of Italy, must represent a bulwark in the protection and diffusion of human rights - reads the deed - and the conferment of honorary citizenship on Patrick Zaki intends to testify the closeness and support of the city of Rome to a young researcher and an important sign of solidarity and support to all those who are unjustly detained and convicted of violating human rights".
"I am honoured, I hope to come to Rome", replied Zaki.
