Emmanuel Macron

, on a visit to the US, said in an interview with ABC that in his opinion "a negotiating table with Vladimir Putin to put an end to the invasion of Ukraine, which he defined as "a big mistake", is "still possible".

However, the French president underlined that "a just peace is not a peace that can be imposed on the Ukrainians" and that "a just peace is not a peace that in the medium or long term would not be accepted by one of the two parties".

Pope Francis

says he wants to mediate on Ukraine but recently "has made un-Christian statements" on the cruelties committed in particular by members of two nationalities of Russia, namely the Chechens and the Buryats.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister

Sergei Lavrov

at a press conference.

"The Vatican has said that this will not happen again and that there was probably a misunderstanding, but this does not help to increase the authority of the papal state," added Lavrov.

Cooperation with the West on European security cannot be resumed in the foreseeable future.

But "if and when the West understands that it is better to coexist on the basis of agreed foundations, we will listen to what they have to offer," added Lavrov.

To resume diplomatic dialogue with the European Union, Russia must understand "when sensible people will appear in European diplomacy".

Lavrov cited a statement by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, according to whom "the conflict must end with the victory of the

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani "is making statements relating to ideas aimed at seeking a solution" in Ukraine, "but I have not heard any concrete proposals".

Interviewed by a journalist, Lavrov said in a press conference - reports Tass - that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine by supplying weapons and training military personnel.

The US and NATO are, he said, "directly involved not only with the supply of weapons, but also with the training of military personnel."

"NATO is not a party to the conflict, we don't let ourselves be dragged into the conflict by Putin".

This was reiterated by the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance

Jens Stoltenberg

tonight in Berlin, in a press conference with the chancellor Olaf Scholz, underlining that "the task" of NATO "is to support Ukraine and avoid an escalation, which goes beyond the Ukraine".

"If Russia were to win the war, it would encourage other authoritarian regimes to use the same means to achieve their goals. And this would make the world more dangerous," he added.
