(ANSA) - BEIJING, DECEMBER 01 - China "supports the EU in increasing its role of mediation" in the crisis in Ukraine, "leading the creation of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security architecture".
This was stated by President Xi Jinping when he met the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Beijing, according to the state CCTV network.
China "has always been on the side of peace and will continue to play a constructive role in its own way", added Xi who, in support of the need for a political solution, recalled an old Chinese saying according to which "a fire at the gates of the city will bring disaster to the fish in the pond".
