A new measure which revives the dispute between the region and the institution.
The Auvergne - Rhône-Alpes region will suspend the granting of scholarships for international mobility to students of IEP Grenoble, in the wake of the cessation of its funding and its cooperation with the school following a controversy over the Islamophobia a year ago.
The institution has decided to “exclude students from Science-Po Grenoble from the international mobility scholarship system”, indignantly elected communist and rebellious representatives of the region in a press release on Friday, denouncing “an unacceptable choice (including) the first victims will be the students”.
"By this decision, the region breaks the principle of equality between all students for access to these scholarships", they continue, demanding the "immediate reintegration" of IEP Grenoble into the system.
A drift of the direction deemed "ideological"
Contacted, the region recalls having, since December 2021, suspended all of its funding and cooperation with Sciences-po Grenoble “following the long ideological and communitarian drift of its management”.
“The suspension of a teacher accused of having reported the deterioration of teaching conditions in this establishment was a new milestone that the region cannot accept.
If last year, these subsidies had been maintained, it is because they had already been voted.
This year, the suspension of all aid comes into full effect,” she explains.
The management of Sciences-po Grenoble had at the time regretted a “political” decision by the president of the region, Laurent Wauquiez.
The sanction came after an internal suspension order targeting Klaus Kinzler, a German teacher at the establishment, for “defamatory remarks”.
The latter had had a heated exchange of emails with another teacher about a day of debates entitled “racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia”.
He had notably challenged the use of this last term, which was not scientific in his eyes, while expressing his reservations about Islam.
