A resident died in a kitchen fire in a family home in Dortmund.
The 81-year-old was found unconscious by the fire department on Thursday evening on the ground floor of the smoky house in the Aplerbeck district, according to a fire department spokesman.
The emergency doctor therefore declared her dead.
According to the police, her 58-year-old son had previously tried in vain to free his mother from the house.
He was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.
It is not yet clear how the fire in the kitchen started.
The police also gave no information on the amount of property damage.
