Elton John will be one of the headliners at the upcoming Glastonbury Festival.
This was announced by the organizers of what is probably the most important music festival in England on Friday.
The performance in summer 2023 will be the last performance in Great Britain as part of his ongoing farewell world tour.
The pop star, singer and composer of world hits like "Tiny Dancer" and "Rocket Man" has been traveling the world since September 2018 and plays shows under the motto "Farewell Yellow Brick Road".
The farewell tour plan was messed up several times by the corona pandemic.
"It gives me enormous pleasure to announce that the one and only Elton John is planning his first appearance in Glastonbury," festival director Emily Eavis said on Friday.
On the last day of the festival, Sunday, Elton John will headline the biggest stage, the Pyramid Stage.
Emily Eavis runs the festival in succession to her father.
Up to 200,000 people regularly come to the site in south-west England.
In 2022, Paul McCartney closed the event - as the oldest headliner ever at the age of 80.
Elton John will be 76 next summer.
His performance will be »the last performance in Great Britain on Elton’s very last tour«, emphasized Emily Eavis, »so this conclusion will be an important moment in both of our stories: the mother of all farewells!« Before that, however, there are performances in Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Mannheim and Cologne are on Elton John's tour schedule.
The Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on July 8th is the very last venue of the farewell tour.
