The "Auerbach case" was a major judicial scandal in the years after the Second World War.

Hans-Hermann Klare opens this old file with his book and reports on the most prominent Jew after the war.

This changes nothing for you.

It reads like a Hollywood screenplay, but the "Auerbach case" is not fiction.

It is the biography of the most famous Jew in Germany.

The author Hans-Hermann Klare reports, in a sober tone, on the life of Auerbach and his fate.

Years of research have resulted in one of the most emotional biographies I have ever read.

Hans-Hermann Klare "Auerbach": About the book

In April 1952, a sensational trial began before the district court in Munich.

The most prominent Jew in Germany after the war was accused: Philipp Auerbach.

He had survived Auschwitz and fought like no other for the survivors of the Holocaust.

His judges, former Nazis, convicted him of minor offences.

Auerbach took his own life that same day.

His fate is symbolic of the fact that the »zero hour« after the war did not exist.

That old elites became new ones and anti-Semitism lived on.

Hans-Hermann Klare's brilliant biography casts a new light on the post-war period.

She resurrects a world in which hundreds of thousands of displaced persons in Germany had to fight for a life in dignity.

blurb

Even if it is a detailed, distanced biography, Hans-Hermann Klare collects many emotions.

The story of Philipp Auerbach is told in an exciting way.

Countless discussions, including the Documenta, or the police presence in front of German synagogues, which still exists today, clearly indicate how up-to-date this biography is.

Hans-Hermann Klare "Auerbach": My conclusion

In my opinion, “Auerbach” is a biography that you have to read.

Being able to partially understand why anti-Semitism survived the war and is still partially “socially acceptable” today.

There was never a real reappraisal of National Socialism in Germany.

It's not enough if the topic is briefly discussed in schools.

Today's Jewish life in Germany is still characterized by fear and prejudice.

With his book, Hans-Hermann Klare clearly shows the structural problems that still exist today.

A biography that I can recommend to anyone who wants to deal with this topic.
