Apple would have taken an important step towards the launch of its metaverse.

According to some sources heard by Bloomberg, the Cupertino giant has renamed, internally, the operating system that will make its first virtual and augmented reality viewers work.

From RealityOs to "xrOs", an abbreviation to include in a single term both virtual and augmented reality, the "extended reality" or "xr".

For Bloomberg, the viewer is an important product category for Apple, like the Watch, representing a first for the brand, even with the risk that it could generate a certain flop in sales.

For this reason, at the expected launch in the first months of 2023, the units produced should be limited, precisely to test the terrain and not to further stress a technological supply chain still under pressure due to the lack of semiconductors.

Precisely on the merits of mixed reality projects, however, Apple loses an important manager: John Stauffe, who leaves Cupertino to marry Roblox, the app and video game that already realizes, at least in part, the concept of the metaverse, to be accessed via traditional devices , smartphones, tablets and computers.

Stauffe has been responsible for the audio and graphics technologies of all Apple and Beats products for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS for the past several years, working closely with the teams that developed the Apple Silicon processors.

Furthermore he was responsible for the development of FaceTime, CarPlay and AirPlay.

At Roblox, Stauffer will oversee a group of engineers responsible for the virtual world of the platform.
