(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, DEC 01 - 'Laptops for Ukraine': the new initiative launched by the European Commission and DigitalEurope, the association representing the EU tech industry, together with the Ukrainian Ministry for Digital, to collect and donate laptops , smartphones and tablets to support schools, hospitals and public administrations in the Ukrainian regions most affected by the war.
This was announced by a spokeswoman for the EU executive during the usual daily briefing with the press.
"The Ukrainian authorities - explains Brussels - have identified laptops as one of the most urgent needs of the moment. Around 70,000 teachers need laptops to continue teaching and 5,000 schools in war-affected regions need digital devices to ensure that 200,000 pupils can continue to study We also need many more devices in other sectors and, in particular, for nurses, doctors and the public administration".
The initiative is open to all and donations can be made through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, the DigitalEurope headquarters in Belgium, and other collection points that will soon be opened throughout the EU.
