Over the days, heaps of snow form near the Sylvie Becaert stadium in Grand Bornand, which will host a stage of the Biathlon World Cup from December 15 to 18.

This snow did not come here from the sky, it was transported by truck.

The competition is fast approaching but there is no snow to cover the stadium track and the weather forecast does not predict heavy snowfall for the next few days.

Faced with this problem, the organizers have chosen to do as they have already done last year, that is to say to have recourse to resources of stored snow mixed with artificial snow.

In all, the organization estimates that it needs 24,000 m3 of snow.

In a press release, several mountain associations accuse the organizers of practices that are dangerous for the environment and they specify that to create this fake snow, water is pumped into a lake not far from the Grand Bornant and that this therefore has a harmful impact on the water cycle.

On the organizational side, we defend ourselves by emphasizing that an event of such magnitude has positive economic and social benefits for the territory.
