December 6th is Nikolaus - get ready

Everyone is looking forward to St. Nicholas Day, because this initiates (at least for me) the anticipation of Christmas and the Advent season.

The day before St. Nicholas is probably the only day of the year that

children

voluntarily shine their own

shoes

.

But not only the little ones, but also the big ones put their boots in front of the door and are happy about sweets and small gifts.

But so that Santa Claus can also be happy (and fill his boots well), put a plate of colorful biscuits 🍪 and a glass of milk 🥛 next to his shoes.

That's how it's done:

You need few ingredients:

  • Cookie Dough:

  • 240g butter, softened

  • 200 grams of sugar

  • 200 grams of brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 380 grams of flour

  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp sea salt

  • 200 g chocolate chips

  • toppings:

  • sugar sprinkles

  • chocolate lentils

The preparation is very easy:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C for a circulating air.

  • Using the whisks of a hand mixer, cream together the butter, sugar and brown sugar.

  • Stir in eggs and vanilla extract.

  • Fold in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and chocolate chips with a spatula.

Continue kneading with your hands until you get a homogeneous, firm dough.

  • Using an ice cream ball scoop, scoop out portions of dough and place them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper with sufficient spacing.

  • Add colored chocolate chips and sugar sprinkles to the dough balls and press lightly.

  • Bake for about 20 minutes until the cookies are lightly browned.

  • Let it cool down and put it in front of Santa Claus with a glass of milk (or snack on it yourself).

  • Santa Claus will definitely be happy about this sweet surprise!

    Why does Santa fill boots?

    via GIPHY

    You certainly kept this

    custom

as a child and you may even pass it on to your children now: on the day before December 6th, a freshly cleaned boot is placed in front of the door so that St. Nicholas can put his small gifts and gifts in there during the night.

But where does that come from?

As is so often the case, the custom of wearing Santa's boots dates back to the

    Middle Ages

    .

In reference to the beneficence of Saint Nicholas, who, according to a true story, threw nuggets of gold through the window of needy sisters one night.

This was adopted by parents in the Middle Ages when they

    threw presents to their children

    .

The problem: the distribution was unfair, since the older children were often far superior to the younger ones when it came to catching.

Therefore, people began to fill the gifts in containers they had brought with them.

If these were running out, you quickly resorted to

    boots and socks

    – after all, everyone had them with them, and at least two of them.

Since clean and shiny shoes were filled particularly generously, it is still customary for you to clean and decorate the shoes today.

Biscuits are ok, but milk isn't your cup of tea?
