There are "many shadows" that "shroud the tragic end of Denis Bergamini".

This is what the Cassation writes in a verdict on the cold case of the death in 1989 of the Ferrara midfielder from Cosenza.

The first-degree trial of the footballer's ex-girlfriend, Isabella Internò, accused of voluntary homicide is underway.

In the opinion of the 'stoats' - who dealt with the Bergamini affair in the context of a trial for defamation against a reporter who defined the pg Giacomantonio "fearful" and "incapable of seriously investigating" the death of the footballer -, instead "while acknowledging that the tragic story has had multiple investigation dynamics, sometimes confused and in any case not yet definitively clarified", there "can be no doubt" about the fact that the pg has suffered "attacks on his reputation" as "accused " to have worked "in favor of Isabella Internò, i.e. she" who "since the initial stages of the investigative story following the death of Denis Bergamini, had been considered implicated in the facts by those who never believed in the thesis of suicide".

In particular, the Cassation recalls that "it was the prosecutor Giacomantonio, in 2011, who requested the investigating magistrate for the first time to reopen the investigations and subsequently carried out a widespread and detailed investigation, using numerous technical consultants and carrying out many hearings of people informed of the facts, in view of an evident objective of shedding light on the controversial 'judicial case'".

"The same request for dismissal - the supreme judges note - is formulated with ample reasons (which wind along 73 pages of the provision), taking into account all the investigations carried out: therefore not a superficial decision, or worse, deviated from some partiality".

"Finally - adds the verdict 44384 of the Supreme Court - it is not out of context to highlight how the story is dated,

"This is not the place - says the Cassation - to dispel any of the numerous shadows that surround the tragic end of Denis Bergamini, so much so that a trial is currently underway before the Court of Assizes of Cosenza, precisely with the defendant Isabella Internò for the crime of murder" but "silent" Castrovillari's pg of "strong opacity in the performance of his functions and without any connection of truthfulness especially regarding the existence of connections with Internò, goes beyond the limits of lawful journalistic criticism".

One cannot "accuse a magistrate of wanting to 'cover up' a case of possible murder without any effective, concrete verification regarding his involvement in such an illicit project".', concludes the verdict.

The trial against Internò - who according to the prosecution had resentment towards the footballer who wanted to end the relationship - was reopened following the request for the exhumation of the footballer's body, made by Bergamini's family through the lawyer Fabio Anselmo, with new examinations who confirmed death by suffocation.
