Italian culture is increasingly female.
This is underlined by the journalist-writer Maria Gloria Fontana who created the
"La città delle donne" award
, now in its second edition.
Receiving the award this year were the writer
Dacia Maraini;
the director of the Talmud Project and professor of International Law Clelia Piperno;
the poet and historian Maria Sole Sanasi d'Arpe;
the TV presenter Serena Bortone;
the former Minister of Culture Giovanna Melandri;
the journalists Annalena Benini and Carola Carulli;
the head of the House of Literature Simona Cives;
the writer Marilù Oliva;
director Elisa Fuksas
.
The award was
presented by the president of the Culture Commission of the Chamber, Federico Mollicone.
"It is important to be proud of our cultural heritage and we must never forget the best and the worst: memory is fundamental", observed Dacia Maraini who at the end of her speech expressed solidarity with Iranian women.
"Being last means being in a condition of need that is not only practical, but also ethical and therefore also of recognition. And women - declares Maria Sole Sanasi d'Arpe - have been and are, too often, still, last, victims of a intolerable prejudice, while they need to be recognized. Opportunities such as this award are very important".
