All Christmas markets in downtown Düsseldorf have been cleared by the police.
The background was an "abstract threat," a police spokesman told SPIEGEL.
The town hall will also be "cleared as a precaution".
However, this is due to the fact that the central Christmas market is located in the inner courtyard.
The police have not yet provided any further details or background information.
