(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 05 - The British newspaper FinancialTimes has named the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy 'Person of the Year': the FT reports it in its online edition.

The newspaper attributed the decision to Zelensky's "extraordinary display of leadership and fortitude", calling him "a Churchill for the age of social media".

In an interview with the FT, the Ukrainian leader said he was "more responsible than brave... I hate disappointing people".

And then: "I just want to catch a carp in the Dnipro River."

For the FT, Zelensky "embodies the resilience of his people and has become a standard bearer of liberal democracy".
