A Norwegian company wants to revolutionize deposit returns.

Customers can already test the new feature in over 20 German cities.

Munich – No more long queues, bitter fights with the machine that doesn't want to take the bottle and dirty fingers from drink residues: A Norwegian company has developed a deposit machine that is intended to simplify the return of deposits by swallowing a large number of bottles at once.

The device has also been used on the dike fire.

Revolutionary deposit machine: "Tomra" now also in Germany

"Tomra R1", as the deposit machine is called, offers its users a decisive feature: instead of laboriously putting each bottle into the machine individually, larger quantities of empties can also be returned here: "Flap open, empties in, flap closed", the Norwegian company explains the principle of their machine.

"Tomra" should be able to swallow up to 100 bottles at once.

To do this, the customer simply pours their deposit collection into the machine and presses “Start” on the control panel.

The machine then counts and scans the bottles independently and spits out the longed-for deposit voucher at the end.

The whole thing should be "quick, easy and super clean", the manufacturer promises on Facebook.

A convenient solution, especially for those who do not regularly take away their empties.

"A revolution!" - Deposit machine already tested at the Deichbrand Festival

Huge amounts of empties quickly accumulate at festivals and concerts.

Tomra took advantage of this and placed four machines in the Aldi festival store on the festival grounds during the Deichbrands - a music festival near Cuxhaven.

Customers in Dresden, Aachen, Oldenburg and Duisburg are already enjoying the bulk return of deposits.

"It's a revolution!" announced the Norwegian company Tomra on June 1, 2021, heralding the start of its Germany launch.

Since then, more and more locations in Germany have been added - customers can now return their deposit collection to a total of 20 Netto, Kaufland or Aldi branches.

In Bavaria, the deposit machine is only represented in five cities: In cooperation with Netto and Edeka, the machine can be found in the Free State in Obertraubling, Sulzbach, Nuremberg, Adelsdorf and Kronach.

Fight against "pollution of the seas" - so far only in a few large cities

The Norwegian company Tomra produces various collection systems and sorting solutions.

In addition to the return of empties, it also offers its products in food sorting and mining.

With its deposit machine, Tomra primarily wants to “fight the pollution of the seas”, as the company announced.

The Facebook account states: "Every PET bottle collected and recycled is one less packaging that ends up in landfill or (...) in the environment and ultimately in the ocean."

On Facebook, many users are in favor of the practicable machine.

However, the choice of location for the deposit machines is occasionally criticized.

In fact, the company chose small towns in Bavaria, Sulzbach, Kronach and Adelsdorf, most of which have just 10,000 inhabitants, for its fight against pollution.

A couple from Schleswig-Holstein, who suddenly raked in more than 1000 euros when returning empties, would probably have found the “Tomra R1” very convenient.
