Damascus, SANA- The Higher Commission for Scientific Research signed today funding contracts for 13 applied research projects in various sectors.

Today, the Higher Commission for Scientific Research signed funding contracts for 13 applied research projects in the sectors of “industry, agriculture, environment, alternative energies, economy, education, and information and communication technology,” with a total budget of 356 million and 525 thousand Syrian pounds, at its headquarters in Damascus.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, noted the importance of participatory in order to accomplish development-related research, indicating that the ministry called on public agencies and institutions to provide them with the problems they suffer from in various sectors, so that they become topics for scientific research at the postgraduate level in universities.

Minister Ibrahim affirmed the Ministry's keenness to encourage applied scientific research in all specialties and to allocate financial budgets for it in order to complete and implement it, indicating that a proposal has been submitted to increase rewards, compensation and incentives for members of the teaching staff related to scientific production, especially the supervision of master's and doctoral theses, arbitration, teaching hours' wages and observations. for employees.

The Director General of the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, Dr. Majd Al-Jamali, talked about the projects that the Commission is working on, represented by the creation of units for research and development in ministries and executive, productive and service agencies, with the aim of benefiting from scientific research in developing production and services provided, in addition to creating offices for technology transfer in universities and research bodies. Within the framework of following up the implementation of the national plan for scientific research, indicating that these projects will help invest research outputs and translate them into reality.

Salam Al-Qassim, Head of the Scientific Research Bodies Department at the Authority, spoke about the mechanism that the Authority followed in processing requests for financial support submitted and the announcements issued in this regard, as well as the targeted sectors.

The researchers, who won financial support for the year 2022, provided an overview of their research, its objectives, and expected outputs, which included titles such as an open participatory innovation platform in Syria, active and smart nanosensors for food products, surveying bony fish species in the Syrian coast, and developing biogas production mechanisms using artificial intelligence and education techniques. The pilot between the expectations of secondary education students and the reality of university education, studying the change of some physical and biological characteristics of Mediterranean water using satellite images, reusing cement kiln dust in the production of Portland cement and construction cement, and testing the efficiency of some microorganisms in improving the resistance and productivity of wheat, barley, lentils and maize crops.

The signing ceremony of the financing contracts included the launch of the Science and Innovation magazine, where Lamis Ismail, the executive director of the magazine, gave a presentation of its contents and the purpose of its issuance, indicating that it is a multidisciplinary electronic journal that specializes in publishing distinguished and influential research papers of importance in various scientific fields such as health, energy, environment, technology, economy and science. Cultural and social, in addition to opinion articles and scientific analysis of recently published research and books, and developing forward-looking visions of science and its developments in various fields.
