(ANSA) - NEW YORK, DECEMBER 04 - French President Emmanuel Macron maintains regular communications with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Macron himself said it in an interview with Cbs.
"I always maintain regular direct contact with Putin.
Isolation is the worst thing", added the French president, noting that "the only way to find a solution" to the conflict in Ukraine is through negotiations.
Macron then said that his country and other Western nations are not trying to destroy Russia.
"That was never our perspective in France," Macrona replied to CBS.
"We also have very close cultural and historical relations" with Moscow and "we have always respected the Russian people",
added the French president.
