The American actress Kirstie Alley is dead. Her children True and Lillie Parker reported this.
Alley died at the age of 71 from complications from cancer that had only recently been discovered.
"As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother," the pair said in a statement.
She was also posted on the actress' official Instagram account.
Kirste Alley made her screen debut as the Vulcan Lieutenant Saavik in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982).
From 1987 to 1993, she co-starred on the popular NBC sitcom Cheers—for which she won a 1991 Golden Globe and an Emmy for Best Actress in a Series.
Alley won another Emmy two years later for her work in the film David's Mother.
In 1989, she starred alongside John Travolta in the film »Look Who's Talking!« – she took on the same role in the two sequels.
From 1997 to 2000 she also had her own sitcom, Veronica's Closet, in which she starred and served as a producer.
After her death became known, Travolta paid tribute to his former film partner: "Kirstie was one of the most extraordinary relationships I've ever had," he wrote on Instagram.
“I love you, Kirstie.
I know we will meet again.«
When she was younger, Alley always made a name for herself with her weight fluctuations.
In 2005, she played a fictionalized version of herself in the docu-soap Fat Actress and published a book called How To Lose Your Ass and Regain Your Life.
In 2010, her reality show Big Life was all about her struggle with the pounds.
Alley was also seen in several shallower TV formats, including the British "Celebrity Big Brother", the American version of "Let's Dance" and "The Masked Singer".
