Darmstadt: Poison attack at the TU – 33

The Darmstadt Regional Court has sentenced a 33-year-old woman to indefinite confinement in a psychiatric clinic because of the poison attack at the city's Technical University.

According to the court, the woman was not guilty at the time of the crime, said a court spokesman.

The court saw it as proven that the 33-year-old from Mainz had mixed food with chemicals in various rooms of the TU in August 2021.

Seven people were injured, one man was temporarily in mortal danger.

The woman was only caught in March, more than seven months after the crime.

Doctors had diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia in the former student from Mainz.

That's why she felt persecuted by members of the department, which is also shown by letters she wrote, the judgment said.

Investigators found it.

In the proceedings, the accused denied the charge of attempted murder.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

"Serious health problems up to symptoms of poisoning"

On August 23, 2021, the police in Darmstadt went on an hour-long large-scale operation because of the incident.

Seven people developed "severe health problems, including symptoms of poisoning" after they drank and ate something in building L2.01 of the Faculty of Materials and Geosciences at the university's Lichtwiese campus.

Two people had to be taken to a hospital in Frankfurt am Main.

The other victims complained of being unwell.

According to the public prosecutor, the seven injured are members of the TU.
