Harry and Meghan: before the broadcast of their documentary, the press shows its teeth

Royal columnists have little taste for the comparison between the story of Princess Diana and that of Meghan Markle. While Netflix has no

Judges and parties… When Harry and Meghan question Harry and Meghan on the reasons which pushed them to flee their royal obligations in Great Britain and to settle in California, the British crown sighs in horror.

Thursday released on Netflix the first chapter of the series that they shot to tell “the whole truth”.

A first trailer had already heightened tensions – we saw Kate Middleton, her face particularly closed, as if impervious to the dismay of her sister-in-law – the extract released yesterday is just as much talking.

The release date is violent: the first part will be broadcast three months to the day after the death of Elizabeth II, the sequel on December 15, the day when the king and the heir to the throne, Prince William, will appear family for Christmas celebration.

“No one knows the whole story.

We know the whole story, ”says Harry, dramatic, in a clip published Monday by Netflix.

The youngest son of King Charles III returns to this love story which had first aroused so much benevolence, before feeding reproaches.

Harry underlines the "hierarchy in the family", a lawyer close to the couple, Jenny Afia, denounces "a war against Meghan, to meet the agendas of other people".

"It's about hate, it's about race", insists a friend, Christopher Bouzy, reinforcing the accusations of racism that the couple had already launched during their shock interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

Harry, 38, denounces "leaks" and stories in the press, and deplores "the pain and suffering of women who marry within the institution" while images scroll by of his mother Diana, pursued by the flashes of the photographers.

“I was terrified, I didn't want history to repeat itself,” he adds.

Feeling challenged, the press reacted quite strongly.

As of last week, the British tabloids headlined: "Sabotage", "Declaration of war", "Harry, why do you hate your family so much?"

".

Denouncing the couple's "obsessive self-pity" and their "manifest contempt" for the royal family, the newspaper The Sun believes that they should be deprived of all their honorary titles.

Journalist Robert Johnson, a specialist in the royal family, thus accused the duo, or Netflix, of implying that the couple was also being pursued by the paparazzi by using a photo where they are seen from behind, with their son Archie in the arms, in South Africa.

This shot "to suggest the intrusion of the press is a complete parody", he denounced on Twitter.

“It was taken by an accredited team at Archbishop Tutu's residence in Cape Town.

Only three people were in it.

H&M had accepted the position (

from the photographers

).

I was there.

“And to mention in another message that these are the same authorized journalists who were present in the room where the family met Desmond Tutu, over a cup of tea.

This photograph used by @Netflix and Harry and Meghan to suggest intrusion by the press is a complete travesty.

It was taken from an accredited pool at Archbishop Tutu's residence in Cape Town.

Only 3 people were in the accredited position.

H & M agreed the position.

I was there.

There was no intrusion.

Specialist of "royals" for the Daily Mail, journalist Richard Kay accuses Harry of using the figure of his mother Diana "as a club to beat the royal family".

To draw a parallel between his mother's story and that of his wife "is distorting and highly selective promotion, as manipulative as the campaign he accuses the media of waging".

He recalls that in the images used for the trailer, Princess Diana had renounced any police presence while Meghan Markle, from the day of her engagement until their departure for Montecito, was always under the protection of Scotland Yard.

The Sun, for its part, made a pun on its last front page, with a thundering “Sussex, lies and video”, inspired by the film “Sex, lies and video”.

The Mirror thinks that "for lack of ammunition", Harry will reveal details of Diana's death, and how he experienced the formalization of the lifelong affair between his father and Camilla Parker-Bowles, who became queen consort.
