(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, DECEMBER 06 - The bank accounts of women who do not wear the veil in Iran will be blocked.
This was announced by Hossein Jalali, a member of the Culture Commission of the Iranian Parliament, as reported by the reformist daily Shargh.
Jalali yesterday referred to new provisions to be implemented in the coming weeks regarding the use of the veil in public, which has been mandatory in the Islamic Republic since its foundation in 1979.
Jalali also announced today that the cost of women not wearing the hijab will be higher, reports BBC Persian.
The politician explained what the alternative program under study would look like for enforcing the hijabe use of the chastity plan for women: instead of "moral police patrols," he said, people who don't wear the veil will be notified via messages, before moving on to punishments.
"There will be no withdrawal from the hijab plan because withdrawal means the withdrawal of the Islamic Republic," he said.
