After an attempted phishing cyber attack that failed at the Shaari Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem:

Hospital administrators warned today (Tuesday) that they are not prepared and are not protected against such an attack.

"Israel Hayom" has learned that in recent times the hospitals have failed controls by an external company designed to test whether they are prepared and protected against attacks.

The Association of Hospital Administrators contacted the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, and asked for a warning that the hospitals are not protected against a cyber attack. The

administrators refer to the attempted attack in Shaare Zedek and the cyber attack that hit the Hillel Yaffe Hospital about a year ago and warn: "Despite the threat we all face that will undoubtedly occur , no significant resources are allocated to build an effective defense system of the health system against these attacks.

The expectation that the hospitals will be able to allocate resources from their depleted sources is unreasonable and in fact constitutes a 'Bat Yana' policy," warn 10 government hospital managers who signed the letter.

"We hospital managers are calling for a cure for the plague and to significantly budget the hospitals in order to build a cyber defense system that we all know involves a considerable expense."

Will take care of the problem?

As mentioned, in recent times the hospitals have failed controls by an external company designed to test whether they are prepared and protected against a cyber attack.

Prof. Miki Halbertal, Director of Rambam and Chairman of the Association of Hospital Directors, told Israel Hayom: "Hospitals are the target of a cyber attack and the health system is not prepared for such an attack. We all know what happened in Hillel Yaffe and the result is that we were told to defend ourselves from the hospital's budget. It is about tens of millions to protect the hospital systems, and of course we cannot afford that. This is not a private 'enterprise' but a strategic system of the State of Israel and it needs to be protected in the same way as the defense system is protected. If you say it is important, you must give the The appropriate budgets. There is not a single hospital or health fund that can take on the financing of cyber defense."

The Ministry of Health stated in response to the allegation that the hospitals did not comply with controls on preparing for a cyber attack: "The Ministry of Health considers it highly important to improve cyber protection in the health system and is working to obtain the necessary resources for this.

To this end, the Ministry of Health conducts risk surveys on an ongoing basis in order to gauge the readiness of the health system to deal with cyber threats and in order to continuously improve the defense capabilities against cyber attacks.

"All over the world there are daily attempts at cyber attacks with varying levels of risk. Part of the goals of the risk tests is to be a parameter in prioritizing the work plans in an effective way and in order to improve the level of resilience."
