A woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Traunstein Regional Court for the murder of her 75-year-old father, who is in need of care.

The 55-year-old is said to have poisoned the man with an overdose of drugs by mixing them in his favorite dish - "sour Lüngerl".

The judgment was initially not final.

Unlike the public prosecutor's office, however, the presiding judge did not see greed as a motive for the crime.

"Your goal was to protect the family," he said on Wednesday.

The woman's daughter and granddaughter of the victim, who was also accused, was sentenced to four years in prison for attempted murder by omission.

Because of a dispute over her father's property, the woman is said to have poisoned his favorite food more than a year ago.

At the time, her daughter lived in the apartment above her grandfather's and was responsible for his care and support.

The close living together has led to increasing tensions, the judge said, and the grandfather wanted the daughter and her husband to move out.

On the other hand, according to the court, the mother wanted to take action.

The daughter noticed the crime, but did not intervene.

After the death of the 75-year-old, other relatives of the victim filed a complaint because they suspected that the man could have died unnaturally.

The body was then exhumed.

In his closing speech on Monday, the prosecutor spoke of an "almost perfect murder".

He accused the accused mother of murder with base motives and malice, and he also assumed that the guilt was particularly serious.

The daughter held the public prosecutor credited with a partial confession and demanded a prison sentence of seven years.

The defense asked for an acquittal for the mother and a six-month suspended sentence for the daughter.
