(ANSA) - ROME, 07 DEC - Rome, London and Tokyo will sign an unprecedented agreement in the next few days for the construction of a sixth generation super jet.
The British media report it, including the Sun and the Daily Mail.
The 'Tempest', this is the name of the supersonic fighter, should begin flying in 2035 - according to the objectives of the agreement - replacing the Eurofighter Typhoon, the result of the Italy-United Kingdom-Germany-Spain collaboration.
It is the first time that Tokyo has participated in a defense project of this level with other countries other than the US and it is the first post-Brexit agreement of this magnitude for London.
The defense giant BAE Systems will be involved for the British side, Leonardo SpA for Italy, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for Japan, according to British press rumors.
Talks between Tokyo and London on the issue began in 2017. Rome joined in 2019, writes the Sun, stating that the agreement should be signed by the weekend.
