Afghanistan: first public execution since Taliban return

An Afghan man convicted of murder was executed in public today, in what is the first confirmation of such a sentence since Islamists returned to power in the country in August 2021. (ANSA)


(ANSA) - KABUL, DEC 07 - An Afghan man convicted of murder was executed in public today, in what is the first confirmation of such a sentence since Islamists returned to power in the country in August 2021.


    "The supreme court she was instructed to implement this 'qisas' order in a public gathering of compatriots," said a statement by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, referring to "an eye for an eye" justice in Islamic law.
