2022-12-07T11:57:37.152Z

According to the EU, Italy is a perfect example after the impressive effort to diversify gas supplies. And the first impact of the Pnrr is clearly visible in Italy, explains Ursula von der Leyen (ANSA)

Italy is a perfect example

of the ability to handle and compensate for the fact that Putin has cut exports via pipelines by 80% in the last 8 months.

This is what EU President Ursula von der Leyen underlines at the Bocconi University in Milan.

Italy has in fact been able to "reduce gas imports from around 40 to 10% thanks to an impressive effort to diversify supplies", explained the number one of the Commission, according to whom, furthermore, European gas stocks have been 96% filled in early November

"and that means we're safe for this winter"

.

At the same time, he underlined, work was done on a series of measures to bring down prices and a solidarity contribution was created on the extra profits of energy companies, "which will generate almost 4 billion in revenue here in Italy as early as 2023, to support fragile families and businesses".

Furthermore, added Von der Leyen,

a correction mechanism for the gas market

, the price-cap, has been proposed, "and Italy asked for it right away".

This "will allow us to prevent excessive price increases by cutting down on manipulation and speculation".

"Now - he adds - the Member States are discussing how to adapt it to all of Europe".

Speaking of the Pnrr, the president of the EU Commission then underlined that

its first impact in Italy is clearly visible

: "Italy - she explained - is receiving over 190 billion euros for investments and reforms, it has already received almost 67 and their impact is starting to show."
