The Hamburg public prosecutor's office has dropped investigations against Udo Lindenberg for insult due to a lack of public interest.
At the beginning of September, the singer was made an honorary citizen by the Hamburg citizenship.
AfD MP Alexander Wolf criticized the decision in a speech.
During the speech, Lindenberg gave the politician the finger (you can watch the sequence here).
Since the artist did not apologize, he filed criminal charges, said Wolf.
Without success: the offense of insult is a private crime, said the spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office, Liddy Oechtering.
Charges are only raised for such crimes if the public interest in criminal prosecution is affirmed.
Referred to civil action
You don't see that in this case.
Wolf was referred to the private lawsuit.
In principle, the decision cannot be appealed.
Wolf called the justification "absurd" and accused the public prosecutor's office of downplaying the criminal offense of insult.
The deputy told the "Bild" newspaper that he would have the attitude checked.
