Who invented it?

Definitely not the Swiss.

One could almost assume that the name of the popular salad is a tribute to Julius Caesar.

But no.

The Caesar salad was

first prepared by Caesar Cardini in Tijuana

, Mexico.

Some say Cardini's

brother Alex

invented the famous salad.

It doesn't really matter who prepared the salad for the first time, does it?

We are glad that someone gives us this pleasure.

With us, the Caesar Salad comes in a handy format in the form of small bread baskets filled with lettuce.

Simply delicious, simply practical.

That's how it's done:

You need these ingredients:

  • bread basket:

  • olive oil

  • 12 slices of toast, without crust

  • Parmesan, grated

  • Topping:

  • 50g bacon

  • 200 g chicken breast fillet, cut into strips

  • salt to taste

  • pepper to taste

  • Edge trimmings of toast, diced

  • Caesar dressing:

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • 1 garlic clove, pressed

  • 3 anchovy fillets, chopped

  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tsp mustard

  • 3 tsp lemon juice

  • 100 ml sunflower oil

  • 30g parmesan, grated

  • Besides that:

  • 300 g romaine lettuce

The preparation is so easy:

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C.

  • For the bread baskets:

Coat the muffin tin with olive oil.

Press the toast slices into the molds and brush them with olive oil.

Then sprinkle with Parmesan and place in the oven for 10 minutes at 200 °C.

  • For the toppings:

Fry the bacon until crisp and set aside.

In the same pan, sear the chicken breast fillet and season with salt and pepper.

  • Then toast the edges of the toast.

  • For the dressing:

Place the egg yolks, salt, pepper, garlic, anchovy fillets, Worcestershire sauce and mustard in a bowl and stir to combine.

Thicken the mixture with lemon juice and sunflower oil.

    Then add parmesan.

Finally fold in the romaine lettuce.

  • Put the salad with the dressing in the bread baskets.

Garnish the cups with the croutons, shredded chicken pieces and bacon.
