Tempting sweets at the supermarket checkout trigger whining fits in many children.
At Kaufland, “candy-free checkouts” are supposed to help – but one detail recently made customers suspicious.
Neckarsulm - Parents of small children should know the situation only too well: As soon as a cash register comes into view when shopping in the supermarket, the children often start screaming.
The well-placed chocolate bars, chewing gum and sweets that are colorfully packaged in the display areas are all too tempting.
From a marketing perspective, the candy at the checkout is certainly a smart move.
For mothers and fathers who have to explain to their children why they don't get the bag of gummy bears or the chocolate bar, crossing this zone quickly becomes a tightrope act.
The supermarket chain Kaufland has found a solution to the problem - and has been offering "candy-free checkouts" for some time.
The principle of the candy-free cash register is actually self-explanatory.
Instead of pallets with surprise eggs, you will usually find all sorts of odds and ends such as electronics, telephone cards, batteries or cables.
Apparently, however, Kaufland does not always keep the promise on the checkout sign, as

writes.
Suddenly, a customer turned to the supermarket chain on Twitter.
First of all, he praises the company for the "finally stress-free checkout for parents without sweets".
However, he seems to have noticed a detail that doesn't fit into the picture.
Kaufland customers begin to ponder when they see the "candy-free cash register".
It's easy to see in the photo: Immediately under the sign for the candy-free checkout are pallets of chocolate lice.
In fact, Kaufland doesn't always seem to strictly adhere to the candy-free zone.
Just recently, a customer complained at the sight of a cash register that was supposed to be free of candy and whose shelves were filled with chewing gum, gummy bears and chocolate.
In the case of the Twitter user who was surprised about the chocolate lice, Kaufland reacted immediately.
"Hello, please tell us the branch via private message," the supermarket chain replies to the Twitter user.
"We want to correct this mistake."
Don't go together: the pallet and the sign.
Kaufland: Candy-free tills were already introduced in the mid-1990s
Kaufland introduced the candy-free tills back in the mid-1990s.
Today they are available in all German branches of the supermarket chain.
“The introduction of these cash registers was on our own initiative to offer customers with children an additional service.
We have found that customers with small children are happy to accept them," said a Kaufland press spokeswoman to the
derwesten.de
portal .
It remains to be seen how long the little sweeties will need to figure out this trick.
