The discounter Lidl advertised a frozen pizza with an “unbeatable” price.
But it wasn't quite that unbeatable, it was definitely cheaper elsewhere.
Hamm - In order to get customers to shop, supermarkets and discounters are always coming up with new things.
Juicy rebates and price reductions, quantity campaigns and competitions will be part of it at least weekly in 2022.
Lidl recently advertised a frozen pizza whose price should be "unbeatable".
However, the discounter fibbed at its customers with this.
Lidl receives a warning: “Unbeatable” price misleads customers
Available now in stores for 1.85 euros instead of 1.95 euros, but only when using your own Lidl Plus app, as reported by wa.de.
The discounter recently advertised the frozen pizza “Dr.
Oetker Ristorante Pizza / Bistro Tarte Flambee Alsatian Style” and attested an “unbeatable” price to its product.
However, according to the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
, Lidl received a warning from the central competition office.
The reason is simple and obvious.
According to the central competition office, the wording "unbeatable" is misleading and does not correspond to reality.
Customers would be fooled into believing that the frozen pizza could not be bought anywhere else at a similar price and thus encouraged to go to the nearest Lidl branch.
According to the competition center, however, this is factually wrong.
Frozen pizza is significantly cheaper elsewhere: Lidl receives a warning for false advertising
Accordingly, the product “Dr.
Oetker Ristorante Pizza / Bistro Flammkuchen Alsatian Art” available from Marktkauf and Aktiv Irma for 1.79 euros.
"This unique position advertising is therefore inaccurate and misleading under the law against unfair competition," said a spokesman for the competition center of the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
.
One thing is clear: unbeatable does not necessarily mean exactly that. Customers should continue to check and compare prices before they end up in the shopping cart.
The same was especially true in November, when the discounter launched a recall of a rice variety due to possible damage to the kidneys and liver.
A video from a possible torture breeding went much more viral in October.
Lidl had taken a position on this.
