When trying to get his fallen bag out of the track bed, an 86-year-old was hit by a train in Central Franconia on Tuesday and was seriously injured.
A 31-year-old tried to pull the man onto the platform of a train station in the municipality of Schwarzenbruck, the police said on Thursday.
A freight train hit the senior at the moment, despite emergency braking, and injured his legs.
He was taken to a clinic in Nuremberg.
According to the police, it was thanks to the quick reaction of the helper that the man was not seriously injured.
