Suspicion of hate speech: police officer is said to have spread pictures of Hitler in chat groups

The State Criminal Police Office is investigating a 28-year-old police officer from Ulm, who is said to have shared right-wing content in chats – also with colleagues. A total of 70 officers have been identified so far.

A police officer is said to have spread pictures of Adolf Hitler and swastikas in various chat groups of a messenger service: Now the authorities are investigating the man on suspicion of hate speech and the distribution of signs of unconstitutional organizations.

The 28-year-old was suspended from duty, as the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office and the Ulm public prosecutor announced on Thursday.

Disciplinary proceedings are to be initiated against five other police officers.

According to the authorities, they confiscated the suspects' mobile phones and checked about 6,000 chat groups.

In 13 of these groups, they found criminally relevant content.

Around 70 officers from ten police headquarters and police facilities have so far been identified as participants in the chat groups.

The investigations, in particular the evaluation of the mobile phones by the State Criminal Police Office, are still ongoing.
